I am the owner of an air duct cleaning company. Last weekend I went to a home, a nice home in a nice neighborhood. They called and said that the dryer was taking 3 to 4 times at 30 minutes each time to dry a small load of shirts.I must say I was a Hero. There I was in my uniform I had my super hero screwdriver in my hand and my super hero face mask on to conceal my face and to keep the Evil bad dust things from entering into my lungs.(my wife makes me put it on she loves me)
I pull away the dryer from the wall as any dryer duct cleaner super hero would do and there it was! 3 years worth of Soap scum 5 socks a coat hanger No 2 of them you know the wire kind. Oh yes the coins 5 pennies. (I keep 50% of what I find). As I removed the 8 foot flex dryer duct that only needed to be 3 feet. My super hero smile started to gleam from ear to ear.First it’s kind of easy being a super hero. Yes the glimmer of dust particles floating by as in a parade. The home owner crying with tears of Shock and then… (Pause here...) I got to watch the tears as they turn to joy. why? You ask why?For 3 years there was a Turdus migratorius living life as they know it right inside the duct hose coming and going as it pleased. Turdus migratorius Also called North American Robin
It was living inside the dryer duct that was in the wall and also in that flexed 8 foot dryer duct hose. I was lit, happy standing there with my super hero screwdriver in my hand and face mask on to conceal my face and to keep the Evil bad dust things from entering into my lungs. I said as any Super hero would say Ah ha!Look and see what I found. (Man that felt good)
The home owner looking to say something to imply it was not her doing to have this, this Intruder a villain you might say(I would). I had no idea, she said as if I would believe her and I did. I informed her as if she was uninformed. These Turdus migratorius also called North American Robins look for homes in your trees, your gutters and yes we pay them in a way no one knows to build homes in YOUR dryer vent ducts.
10 or was it 30 minutes later after she cleaned her floor and walls. I put the 8 foot flex dryer duct that only needed to be 3 feet back on.I returned the dryer back to its place alongside the washer. The dryer feeling as if I reached inside its very being and took out a large cancer.
Well as a super hero I sort of did. What I found was 3 nests with eggs in some them; each nest was fallowed with packed lint.ie. NEST LINT NEST LINT. This went on for 3 years. The home owner had the heat element replaced 3 times before calling me. The elements BURNED UP.This was made into a funny story BUT to say have Your Dryer serviced and your dryer duct cleaned at least 1 time every 2 years. The home owner in this story was not paid or forced to tell her part. The Turdus migratorius also called North American Robin left as soon as the charges were dropped. (Yes attempted arson) Dryer duct cleaning should only cost around $60 to $120 .Depending on the home and where your duct goes. Pease of mind for you.Dale owner Complete Air Duct Cleaning/719-460-4370
